McGregor Up For People's Choice

Queer author Fiona McGregor has made the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards shortlist for her novel, Indelible Ink.

McGregor is also in the running for the People’s Choice award where people have an opportunity to vote for the Sydney-based author from July 25.

Indelible Ink will join five other novels including The English Class and Traitor with the winner announced in September this year.

McGregor received congratulations from Curtin Brown Australia and Scribe Publications this afternoon over twitter.

‘I am pleased these important awards are attracting so many entries from a wide range of publishers,’ the WA Culture and Arts minister John Day said today.

Some 571 entries were submitted this year, compared to just 400 for the 2009 awards.

‘This year, a People’s Choice Award has been added to the mix of categories.’

‘The six titles short-listed in the Fiction category will be eligible for this award, and I encourage avid readers and book club members across Australia to familiarise themselves with each of these fantastic works, so they can influence the outcome.’

Over 40 titles were nominated for this year’s shortlist over categories including best fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Voting forms for the People’s Choice award are available on the State Library’s website.
