“In Australia with our set of values people are seeing this as an affront to women, and as an affront to homosexuals and an affront to Australian values and an affront to our nation’s laws” Senator Roberts said.

Asked how the burqa is upsetting to homosexuals, Senator Roberts said it was because “the Islamic people throw homosexuals off the rooves buildings.”

The One Nation senator said people saw the Islamic dress as a “deeply concerning” symbol of Islam and terrorism.

Appearing on Lateline on Thursday night Roberts defending leader Pauline Hanson’s decision to appear in the senate wearing the Muslim religious dress. Senator Hanson was criticised by many senate colleagues who labeled her act a ‘political stunt’.

Earlier this week a new group Muslims for Marriage Equality was launched, voicing support for LGBT marriage rights.
