Many members of the LGBTI community have been snapping selfies as they put their forms for the government’s marriage survey in the post box, but for one OUTinPerth reader the trip to the post office exposed them to claims that allowing same-sex marriage would lead to bestiality and incest.

A vehicle parked in the Perth suburb of Heathridge had a message posted on it’s rear that read “What’s next? Marry your Pets (or kids) because you love them. Vote No!!”

As the campaign against allowing LGBTI people ramps up there has been constant claims that allowing same sex couples to wed will be the beginning of a ‘slippery slope’ to other unintended consequences.

Concerns that marriage equality will lead to a push for recognition of bestiality and incestuous relationships has previously been put forward by Senator Cory Bernardi, and former Speaker of the House, Bronwyn Bishop.

Senator Bernardi stepped down from his parliamentary secretary role in 2012 after he made a similar suggestion during a debate in parliament.

In early August Bronwyn Bishop made similar comments while appearing on Sky News. Bishop said changing marriage laws could lead to bestiality, polygamy or euthanasia of disabled babies.
