Four million dollars worth of funding is available to community groups via the state government’s Criminal Property Confiscation grants program.
The program allows local governments and non-profit community groups to apply for up to $200,000, seized under the State’s tough proceeds of crime laws, to fund projects which prevent or reduce drug-related crime and drug abuse, support crime victims or aid law enforcement.
The Department of Justice Director General Dr Adam Tomison launched the latest round of the scheme today announcing that $4 million was available.
Grants have met certain conditions; including matched contributions to the project they are going to run.
Groups to benefit from previous funding rounds include The Martu School Holiday program in the East Pilbara, which received $200,000 to engage with local young people and help them make positive life choices.
While The Tenancy Western Australia/ Womens Law Centre WA/Street Law Centre WA project also received $200,000 to work together to tackle homelessness. The three agencies are working together to offer legal and other support in the metropolitan area to women and children at the risk of homelessness due to family violence
The City of Greater Geraldton, received $184,648 previously to run the U-Turn project, which funds a crime prevention officer to help divert young people away from crime, particularly during school holidays

Four information sessions designed to help with the application process will be held in Perth on 12, 17, 20 and 24 April. Applicants interested in attending a session must register in advance with the Grants Administrator.
