Going to the Gym

Changing my eating habits has been half of the process of losing weight and getting fit. The other half has been exercise. I’m glad I spent the first month of this journey just focusing on changing what I was eating. Trying to conquer that and doing exercise would have been too much. Once my eating habits were on a new direction, I embraced the inevitable, the gym.

The team at my local Goodlife Health Club has been really supportive of my undertaking. First I went in and we discussed my goals and expectations. Then they set up an appointment with a trainer to measure my fitness.

I met Shingie at 7am on a Thursday morning and she got me to spend some time on an exercise bike, a treadmill and doing various stretches. A few days later we had a second session and Shingie walked me through a fitness program she had designed for me. It involves a series of exercises including pushups, lunges, bar bell lifting, a few weight machines and some time on an exercise bike.

There seems to have been a change of thinking in the approach to weight loss, instead of hours on a treadmill doing cardio the focus is one using the biggest muscles in your body. It’s exhausting, but it doesn’t take a great deal of time.

It’s taken me a little while to get into the habit of going to the gym. So far I’ve only made three times in a week once – but it’s starting to become part of my routine.
