Immigration Minister David Coleman has revoked the visa granted to controversial right-wing speaker Milo Yiannopoulos.

Last week Coleman used his ministerial powers to grant Yiannopoulos a visa, despite the Department of Immigration recommending he be denied on character grounds.

Minister Coleman made his decision to allow Yiannopoulos to undertake his tour after several members of the Liberal party including Senator Amanda Stoker, Senator James Paterson and Victorian MP Tim Wilson argued he should be allowed to tour. One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has also voiced support for Yiannopoulos.

David Coleman said has told the media he has now cancelled the visa following comments Yiannopoulos made in relation to the Christchurch massacre.

This morning the minister described the comments as “appalling and foment hatred and division” and the speaker would not be allowed in the country.

Coleman said the attack in Christchurch was “an act of pure evil” carried out “on Muslims peacefully practicing their religion.

“Australia stands with New Zealand and with Muslim communities the world over in condemning this inhuman act,” he said.
