Brunei will bring in ‘death by stoning’ for people suspected of being homosexual 

Human rights groups have called on Brunei to abandon plans to introduce severe laws that would see people suspected of being homosexual whipped or stoned to death. The changes in the law are part of a three stage plan to introduce Sharia Law into the country which was announced several years ago. The laws will now come into effect on 3rd April.

Following the announcement that Brunei would introduce harsh death penalties for people suspected of being homosexual, singer Belinda Carlisle was just one of many celebrities vowing to boycott the expensive hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei.

A same-sex couple who were worried about an upcoming stop over in Brunei contacted the government’s Smart Traveller website team for advice. They were shocked when a team member suggesting “acting straight” would be adequate protection from the country’s proposed harsh laws.
