The lesbian outdoor group, Sapphic Trampers, kicked off 2012 with a large gathering of women at South Beach in January. The organising group has come up with a calendar for the rest of the year which offers a range of walking, paddling and cycling activities at a variety of locations and levels of difficulty. There is something for everyone.

Highlights on the program include cycling the Swan Valley, a Twin Peaks walk on the Bibblumun Track, a weekend away to Nanga Bush Camp on the Murray River and outdoor movies at Burswood. The next event is on Sunday February 12 with a Penguin Island adventure. Paddlers will head from Shoalwater via Seal Island to Penguin Island. Non paddlers can take the ferry and meet up on the Island for picnicking, snorkelling and swimming.

Sapphic Trampers have been offering women in Perth the opportunity to join others for outdoor adventures for over a decade. Each month a woman investigates an event and then goes on to lead that event. Generally RSVPs are not necessary; just turn up and pay a gold coin donation. Events start on time and no cancellations, although poor weather has seen some activities relocated to a cosy café!

Full details for each monthly event are available on the website at www.sapphictrampers.com approximately 3 weeks before the event. It is also possible to sign up for the monthly email notice of events through the website.
