The classy hotel at the top of St George’s Terrace is well known to Perth’s LGBTIQ+ community as the home of the bi-monthly LGBTI Professionals gatherings which attracted a large crowd of people.

In a statement on the hotel’s website said while the hotel had an enjoyed great success in the past, recently it had struggled to meet it’s obligations as a lessee of the space.

“In recent times, the business has faced challenges and the lessee has been unable to maintain consistent compliance with its lease obligations. As such the parties mutually agreed to end the lease.” the statement read.

The hotel opened in 2011 after extensive renovations and went on to win many industry awards for it’s restaurant and accommodation operations. St George’s House, originally named Bishop’s Grove, was built in 1892 by the Anglican Church, and was transformed into the boutique 15 room hotel by architect Jean-mic Perrine.

The hotel’s bar was a spot where you could often see well known business people and politicians mingling.

A spokesperson for the Perth LGBTIQ+ Professionals group said they are currently looking at their options as to where they might hold their events in the future. The group recently celebrated its third birthday.
