Bears Perth apologise for sharing anti-Islam post

Members of Bears Perth Inc were alarmed on Australia Day when the local social group shared an anti-Islam post on it’s Facebook group.

Alongside promotion for the Bear’s regular Den Nights was a call for the banning of mosques, burkas, halal food and sharia law.

The post was shared from a Facebook group, Gay Guide Australia, that promotes LGBTI venues and events, Pride festivals and a queer focused anti-Islamic group.

Members of the Bears group were shocked to click through to the Facebook page that heavily promotes a group called LGBT Patriots/Infidels United Australia.

The group appears to be a far right group that is opposed to immigration and supportive of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party. The page’s profile picture combines the Pride rainbow flag with the brown, white, grey and orange stripes of the International Bear Brotherhood flag.

Bears Perth have removed the post from their page, describing it as an ‘accidental post’.

The Club’s President said the post “does not reflect the views of Bears Perth Inc, and we regret it’s accidental sharing. Bears Perth welcomes bears and their admirers from all parts of our diverse community.”
