Bimbo Jones Have Got it Going On

Lee Dagger Bimbo Jones

Dynamic dance duo, Bimbo Jones, know how to turn the party. They’ve played all across the world, from Miami, to Ibiza to good ol’ Perth – wherever they are, so shall the party be.

I caught up with legendary mixmaster Lee Dagger about what he’s been up to since his last visit to our city and asked him if Perth stands to measure against the rest of the party-sphere.

What have you been up to since we saw you last?

“Hello Perth, it’s been a fab year! I started 2014 with my New Years Eve set with you all at Connections Nightclub. I then travelled to Sydney, Miami, Marseille, Prague, Ibiza and beyond on tour.

2014 saw the release of our 2nd Bimbo Jones studio album “Go Naked” on Radikal records. The first release called “I Found Out” that we wrote with the amazing Beverley Knight got to the number 1 spot in the UK music week chart back in November.

The previous month I got my first ever Billboard no 1 in the USA dance chart with my own single “Shelter Me”, featuring Inaya Day, beating the likes of Avicii, David Guetta, Jennifer Lopez and Zedd to the top spot.

I was also lucky enough to present an award in Miami at the WMC awards ceremony and got to DJ on the red carpet along with my dear friend, Ultra Nate.

I am also proud to announce that I have been granted my USA visa which allows me to work and live in the USA for 2-3 years. I plan to move there and continue writing many new exciting new songs with lots of artists”

You’ve got a lot going on! Who are some of your favourite artists to play at the moment?

“I love any music with energy. Be it funky house, vocal house, some deep house, and a little progressive or electro for big festivals. I am liking a whole range of producers and remixers such as Oliver Heldens, Smith & Westin, M-Series, Shadow Child and Bimbo Jones (HAHA! …if I can say that). Jennifer Hudson’s voice is amazing. I would love to write with her!”
Have you noticed any differences between UK and Aussie club kids?

“Yes, of course! Sadly, the UK is being brainwashed by Radio 1 into thinking the kids want to hear drum and bass which I can’t stand!”
Do you ever get any requests that you flat out refuse to play?

“Rarely, but yes it has happened before. I was once handed £5 in London by some drunken dude telling me to put some R&B on!  Oh dear!”
You’ve toured with your act all over the world. Which city has the craziest parties? (and I mean craziest!)

“Prague and clubs all around the Czech Republic are insane… also Switzerland and Siberia!  Of course, Australia ranks up there at times, which I LOVE!”

Catch Bimbo Jones, directly from the Mardi Gras Sydney Harbour Party at Connections Nightclub on Saturday March 14, tickets available from www.connectionsnightclub.com.au
