‘Tomboy’ follows the story of a hitman who is betrayed by gangsters and is forced to undergo gender reassignment surgery by a renegade doctor played by Sigourney Weaver. Now living as a female, Michelle Rodriguez’s assassin character sets out for retribution.

GLAAD’s representative for transgender issues Nick Adams told The Hollywood Reporter that he is disappointed to see filmmakers sensationalising transgender people.

“We are at a crucial moment in the public’s understand of transgender issues, and stories like these have the potential to undermine the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”

‘Tomboy’ Director Walter Hill and the production team have not spoken publicly on these criticisms, though the film does not begin filming under November this year.
