The rapper was gunned down outside a Motor Sports store on Monday while he was inside his black BMW. Police believe he was the victim of a robbery.

The musicians songs often spoke about his troubled life, he spent two stints in custody before he found success in music business.

In an interview with the No Jumper hop-hop podcast XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, recounted an incident where he had violently assaulted a cellmate who he thought was gay.

“They came to me and asked me if they could put him in my room. I laughed and said ‘Ya’ll can put him in my room. But if he does anything I disapprove of, I’m gonna kill him, and I’m not going to give you any warning. I put it on my life.'” the musician said.

He recounted that he believed the new cellmate was looknig at him too much and he caught him looking at him after he’d taken a shower.

“I saw this n**** staring at me while I was putting on my jumpsuit…, I started beating his face in. You want me to be graphic with it? I grabbed his face and put it on the corner type-shit – we have these concrete slabs of beds – I threw his head on the corner and started stomping. I tried to strangle him. Long story short, I was gonna kill him.”

XXXTentacion went on to say that he ended up being covered with his cellmate’s blood.

He released his debut album in August 2017, and a second album quickly followed in Amrch this year. A 2017 tour was cancelled after numerous troublesome incidents including XXXTentacion getting knocked out during a show,  fan being stabbed during a performance and his own concert security throwing him into a barrier.

Following his death his track SAD was streamed on Spotify more than 10.4 million times in a single day, breaking a record previously held by Taylor Swift.
