Singers Leo Sayer and Lulu are teaming up for a concert tour. The duo are set to play the Perth Concert Hall on Sunday July 3rd 2016.
In 2015 after promoters suggested that Leo and Lulu tour together Lulu went to see Leo performing in London and was blown away by his stage presence and a voice that could match her own soulful delivery.
The story is she was so impressed, she joined him on stage that same night! The two music legends hit it off so well that the Leo & Lulu tour was on.
In announcing the Australian tour Lulu said she was excited to be touring with Leo Sayer.
“I am beyond excited to be coming to Australia for these gigs and sharing the stage with Leo. Leo Sayer is musically the real deal so bring it on I can’t wait.” Lulu said.
Leo Sayer said he can’t wait to get back on stage with the famous Scottish singer.
“Lulu was already an icon when I came on the scene and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. We’re good pals and I can’t wait to welcome her to Australia.” Leo Sayer said.
Lulu was just 15 when she recorded her first UK hit, a version of the Isley Brothers’ ‘Shout’. Three years later, in 1967,she starred alongside Sidney Poitier in the classic film ‘Top Sir With Love’ where she also delivered a stunning performance of the theme tune.
In 1969 Lulu represented Britain in the Eurovision song contest singing ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’. Lulu won the competition alongside three other entries who tied for the top spot. In the 1970’s Lulu sang the theme to the James Bond film ‘The Man With the Golden Gun’.
Her career had a big revival in the 1990’s when she appeared on the TV series ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and recorded a cover of the disco stomper ‘Relight My Fire’ with boy band Take That.
Lulu also recorded a dance album with some of the top house music producers including Brothers in Rhythm, and Frankie Knuckles.
In 1993 Lulu was one of the co-writers of Tina Turner’s hit ‘I Don’t Want to Fight’ which coincided with the release of the bio-pic ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’. Last year Lulu released a new album titled ‘Making Life Rhyme’.
Born a few months before Lulu, Leo Sayer broke through as a singer and songwriter with a string of hits including ‘The Show Must Go On’, ‘One Man Band’, ‘Long Tall Glasses’ and ‘Moonlighting’.
His career went into overdrive in 1977 with two global chart-toppers, the disco-fired ‘You Make Me Feel like Dancing’ and the ballad, ‘When I Need You’.
Sayer has had a phenomenal nine Top 20 albums and 14 Top 20 singles and has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide.
In 2006 a remix of his 1977 hit ‘Thunder In My Heart’ took him back to the top of the charts. Leo Sayer has lived in Australia since 2005 and became an Australian citizen in 2009.
The tour commences at Sydney’s State Theatre on 23 June before heading around the country, with these two icons of the industry performing all their hits separately and together.
