Lorde Does Tears for Fears, Tears for Fears do Hot Chip

LordeLorde has covered a classic track by Tears for Fears for the soundtrack to ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

The popular New Zealand singer, who has had a world wide hit with ‘Royals’, takes the British band’s tune to a much more dark and foreboding soundscape.

It’s not the first time Tears for Fears work has found success via a spooky cover, Gary Jules scored a major hit when he contributed his sombre version of ‘Mad World’ to the Donny Darko soundtrack. We wonder how long it will be before someone does a emo-version of ‘Sowing the Seeds of Love’.

Alongside Lorde on the films soundtrack will be Coldplay, Of Monsters and Men, The National and Antony and the Johnsons, plus a collaboration between Sia, The Weekend and Diplo.

As for the band who originally created the tune, Tears for Fears have just released a 30th anniversary edition of the debut album ‘The Hurting’ and have been back in the studio recording their seventh album which is expected early next year. To kick off the recording Curt and Roland knocked out a few cover version of their own, check out their take on Hot Chip’s ‘Boy From School’ below.
