Madonna turns up on Grindr and at gay bar The Abbey

Madonna’s promotion of her upcoming Confessions II album continued over the weekend, with the singer taking over the dating app Grindr and making a surprise appearance at West Hollywood gay bar The Abbey.

Users of Grindr discovered that Madonna was appearing as one of the profiles on their grid. Clicking on the silhouette — featuring the singer in pink stripes — led to an audio message in which she introduced herself as “Mutha” over a dance track, part of a global promotional partnership for the album.

The takeover also offered fans access to a limited‑edition picture disc of the forthcoming release.

The singer also made a surprise appearance at The Abbey on Saturday night, joining producer Stuart Price in the DJ booth. Together they previewed new tracks from Confessions II, including Love Sensation and Freedom, as well as the recently released I Feel So Free. Price also played classic material from Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Thief of Hearts, the album track from Madonna’s 1992 Erotica album also got a spin. The song has recently found a new lease of life thanks to thousands of TikTok videos featuring the tune.

There was a star-sudded crowd in attendance for the ‘surprise’ appearance with Cara Delevingne, Tom Daley, Tori Spelling, Lily Allen, Addison Rae, Julia Fox, Lola Young, Sky Ferreira and many others in attendance. Daughter Lordes Leon was also reportedly there, as was Madonna’s boyfriend Akeem Morris. There was also a collective of stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race including Willam, Trinity the Tuck, Morgan McMichaels, Gottmik and Symone.

The appearance generated hundreds of fan‑captured videos across social media, showing Madonna dancing, speaking to the crowd, and previewing new material.

Madonna’s appearance at The Abbey follows her guest spot at Sabrina Carpenter’s Coachella show last weekend where the pair sang another tune from the forthcoming record that arrived on 3 July.

Rumours continue to circulate that Australian pop star Kylie Minogue may feature on one of the tracks on the new album. Stuart Price, the album’s producer, has previously worked with Kylie, and the pair appeared on stage together in 2024 during Madonna’s Los Angeles show.
