How did you first get into DJing?

I got into DJing when I was about 19. It was a favour for a friend who I worshipped as a DJ and he asked me to play his 40th birthday. I had no clue how to beat match or anything. So he taught me and just before his birthday, a weekly gig appeared at one of his clubs. Was rather amazing to see people feed off your music and it became addictive from then on

Your first official remix has just been released, how would you describe it?

The song is a cover of U2’s ‘With Or Without You’. Wayne G put together this release with the vocals by Brian Kent. My remix with LFB is an uplifting, big beat, club track. Remixing is what I’m loving so much right now. Putting your own sound onto tracks and giving something new to the industry.

What do you cover in your podcasts?

I work on my podcasts every month or so. Giving people a range of what they’ll hear from my sets. They take you on a journey from start to finish. All podcasts are available to download and subscribe via iTunes.

What tunes are ‘doing it’ for you at
the moment.

The hardest question to a DJ!! Been really loving My Digital Enemy Enemy and Danny Verde lately. I don’t follow charts much and just listen out to hear what I like.

You get to travel across the country to lots of parties which are the best?

Honestly, in January doing Filth was a highlight. Such friendly fellas and wanted to have a good night out. I also love traveling to Auckland to play every chance I get. Any chance to travel, see new places and play for people is great

What will you bring to Filth at Connections?

Besides boots and jockstraps (hahaha), some real sexy, fun tunes and some of my signature sound, which has been titled “dirty handbag”. Chunky beats with some well known vocals.

DJ Matt Effect plays Filth on Saturday May 25, 8pm-1am, Connections Nightclub, Rear Entry, Nick’s Lane, Northbridge
