Melbourne May Dump Russian Sister City

yay-1516813Melbourne may dump St Petersburg as it’s sister city due to the introduction of anti-gay propaganda laws.

The city’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle wrote to St Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko earlier this year expressing concern over legislation that proposes fines for anyone promoting homosexuality, bi-sexuality, or trans* issues and information in front a minor.

The council will resolve the issue at their meeting on December 17th, but the move comes with a large number of local residents pressuring the council to break of the relationship.

Milan and Venice both used to be sister cities with St Petersburg, but suspended the agreement in light of the introduction of anti-gay laws.
