Minister Hannah Beazley praises outgoing Pride CEO Dr Lauren Butterly

Hannah Beazley, the Minister for Local Government, Disability Services, Volunteering, Youth, and the Gascoyne, has praised the work of Dr Lauren Butterly.

Dr Butterly has served as Pride WA’s CEO for the past three years but recently announced that she’d be departing the role.

On her social media the Minister posted a photograph of herself and Dr Butterly at the Crown Pride luncheon and praised the community leader’s work.

“Under Laurie’s leadership, amongst other achievements, Pride WA delivered the biggest ever Pridefest celebrations last year and helped to secure the Gay Games for Perth in 2030 – which is going to be a fantastic event!

“Laurie has been a great advocate for the LGBTIQA+ community, making sure they feel seen, heard and valued.

“As the Minister responsible for our State’s first whole of government LGBTIQA+ and Inclusion Strategy, I look forward to continuing our collaborative working relationship with PrideWA.” Minister Beazley said.

The Pride WA Board will take time to review the organisation’s current operating structure before
commencing any recruitment for a new CEO, particularly in light of the continued growth of Pridefest and the evolving relationship between Pride WA and the Gay Games.

Prior to joining Pride WA Dr Butterly was a distinguished law academic and broadcaster.

Dr Butterly was the second person to hold the role of CEO. Choon Tan was Pride WA’s inaugural CEO filling the role from 2021 until 2023. Prior to this the organisation has been run by volunteers, and through the engagement of events management companies.
