My Dead Activist Heart And Zombie Threads

Ok so we don’t always get what we want, even when we say pretty please with a nice little FUCK YOU sprinkled on top…So we don’t make the rules, but at least we’re not hypocrites. The ongoing hate/love/hate/hate/question relationship between the government and student activists is always happening somewhere in the background around our queer students activities. The murmurs rouse our sense of giving a shit about our future and the future of human rights. Each year we rise from the graveyards of fairness and equity for a good haunting of our friends like the Rudd administration, just as we did their predecessors the Howard government.

Maybe it’s our eyes falling out of their sockets in disbelief, or the lifelessness of national politics, the decaying exterior of social justice or just a desire for brains. Whatever it is that causes us to rise up constantly and challenge the adverse lawmakers is winning us some support from the tasty population at large, however that’s not what they’re having for breakfast in Canberra. We get it – you’re very confused over there, that’s why you receive your food the same way as people in old folk’s homes. Why don’t they just call it ‘Parliament Home’ I’ll send my Nanna there and John Howard can return with his pension!

Anyway, digression is at the centre of my dead activist heart – We’re still keeping our hopes afloat across campuses with this year’s Pride Festival coming up. Every year we get up and parade through Northbridge with many of our local communities and supporters from Perth. It’s somewhere to be out and proud and just a little bit glamorous. You’ll see us at Fair Day too preaching to the converted, hopefully, and showcasing some of our motivations and ethics regarding how the Cross Campus Queer Network works. You might even have fun if you like sponging politicians with custard or just jumping on beanbags.

We don’t mean to be overly political; we try to provide students with access to the information which will affect their futures and help find support for their various social and sexual choices…Amidst the undying murmurings and stalkings of those dedicated to the ongoing freedom and equity of our queer bloc. So reanimate with us some time… pull up a dead horse and let’s share a brain or two, we could probably erm… use them… erm… productively. Murmurs…
