[nyepovia]

Northbridge is the new black. Our gorgeous ghetto is becoming the coolest fashion precinct. Blame it on the boom. Blame it on the billionaires. Blame it on the weather. Whoever you blame, just make sure you do it while being well dressed. Who knows when the boom will crash.

Where better to dress than at new kid on the block, [nyepovia], the brainchild and fashion foetus of Kristian Angel and Jeremy Lim. The store name, wonderfully accentuated in square brackets, means hegemony or social hierarchy in Greek and stems largely from ideas inspired by such movies as Brazil. Hence the interior of the store not only being matt black, but containing one giant wall of filing cabinets, just like in the movie.

What makes [nyepovia] so cool is its anti-stance, or anti-cool cool. The windows are all blocked out with cardboard, making the interior dark and intimate, the lighting a sluice of style in an otherwise dim place. Antique detailing abounds, with the atmosphere articulating stand out pieces of fashion. And oh how the fashion stands out!

International men’s labels abound. The racks spike out from the walls and are dedicated to a designer each, the name of their label actually laser cut into the rack itself. Most notable mentions belong to the creators of the slogan t-shirt, House Of Holland. With such witty words as ‘Cum Again Christopher Kane’ or ‘Flick Yer Bean At Agnes Deyn’ (sigh…famous London couture designer and super sleek supermodel alike kids…geez), these tops take the current slogan trend right back to its roots. Yes, House Of Holland did it first…everything else is just, well, Supre.

Elsewhere in the store are the wonderful designs of Jeremy Scott, Yoko Shitaka, Raf Simons as well as sumptuous Vivienne Westwood accessories. Yes, d’jour couture has landed here in Perth, and it is perfectly fantastic folks. Add the amazing artwork of leading contemporary artist Patrick Dougherty in the changing room and [nyepovia] is the place to shop…particularly if you want to be finely dressed when the bottom finally drops outta the dollar!

[nyepovia] can be found at Shop 17 William Lane, 189 William Street in Northbridge. Think Connections carpark for entry point…
