PFLAG Plans Advertising Campaign to Support Same-Sex Couples

PFLAG is speaking up in an advertising campaign that advocates equality for gays and lesbiansParents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians (PFLAG) plans to raise its voice in support of same-sex couples with an advertising campaign calling on major parties to support legal equality.

PFLAG National spokesperson, Shelley Argent, said that the ad will put a human face to opinion polls which show rising levels of support for gay equality amongst heterosexual Australians.

‘The aim of the ad is to show that discrimination against same-sex couples affects more people than just these couples themselves, and that equality has widespread support amongst many ordinary, heterosexual Australians,’ Mrs Argent said.

‘People who contribute to the ad can choose to have their names included behind a simple message in support of fair treatment.’

A draft of the ad on www.movingforward.com.au says:

EVERYONE wants the best for their LOVED ones.

Mr. Howard,

Please end legal discrimination against our CHILDREN, FAMILY members and FRIENDS who are in same-sex relationships.

What hurts them hurts us.

The ad will be published on August 13th, the 3rd anniversary of the federal same-sex marriage ban.

Contributions to the campaign can be made by contacting Shelley Argent at pflagbris@hotmail.com or by visiting www.movingforward.org.au.
