National spokesperson for PFLAG Shelley Argent says parents with sons and daughters in same sex relationships are saying “enough is enough.”

The print advertisement entitled “The Plebiscite is a distraction and an absolute disgrace” reads as a direct letter to the Prime Minister, listing seven reasons that PFLAG are against a public poll on the issue.

PFLAG cite the potential negative effects on LGBTI peoples mental health, the uncertainty of a plebiscite and the multi-million dollar cost of execution among their concerns.

“It’s time for Mr Turnbull to act and show leadership with marriage equality,” Argent says.

“Labor promise within 100 days of winning the election they will have a free vote [on marriage equality.”

Argent says Prime Minister Turnbull should be asking why he should expect votes from the LGBTI community and allies when he provides no timeline for a plebiscite which has been slammed as expensive and potentially harmful.

“Parents are calling on him to show leadership. Our sons and daughters are not political footballs.”
