There has been an increased focus on Singapore’s colonial era laws which outlaw same sex sexual activity following India’s landmark Supreme Court ruling last week which saw then declare similar laws unconstitutional.

A poll carried out by Ipsos in Singapore has found support for criminalising homosexuality remains at fifty-five percent.

Fifty-five per cent of 750 Singaporeans surveyed still support the ban. 12 per cent oppose the law, while 33 per cent were neither for nor against it.

Ipsos conducted the online poll of people aged between 15-65 years over four days in late July and early August.

Last week several high profile Singaporeans said it was time for the country’s LGBTIQ+ community to make a renewed push for the laws to be changed.
