Pride Art Contest

During Pride month the Court Hotel held an art competition on Monday nights. Artists were invited to come to the pub and paint the portrait of a male model. After four weeks of competition – 3 rounds and a final – Steven Dance was declared the competition’s winner, receiving a $250 voucher to the Court Hotel restaurant when it opens as his prize.

Steven, who describes his style as ‘a bit cartoon-y and a little bit impressionistic’, said he came down to the competition after finding out about it from the model. He said of the event, ‘I’m just glad that someone is thinking a bit more laterally about putting these sort of events on in Perth. A lot of what you find is the same old stuff. This had a bit of difference… a little bit more diversity.’

Bree Maddox, owner of the Court Hotel, said she was impressed with the quality of art work and that the Court has even had expressions of interest in the works from prospective art buyers.
