Netflix has confirmed today that cult favourite Sense8 will not be renewed for a third season, causing a massive outcry from fans of the Wachowski sibling (The Matrix) sci-fi.

The series, which has been celebrated for its representation of LGBTIQ characters, joins Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down as Netflix makes sweeping cuts to its less popular original programming.

The show starred Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen, Max Riemelt, Tina Desai, Brian J Smith, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and trans actor Jamie Clayton as eight individuals who discover they are mentally linked and can communicate to one another from around the globe.

The first and recently-released second seasons of Sense8 are available to stream now on Netflix.
