Scotland is set to become the first British country to legalise same-sex marriage, despite huge opposition from church leaders and groups.

New laws will allow same-sex couples to marry in both civil ceremonies and churches, ‘We believe that in a country that aspires to be an equal and tolerant society, as we do in Scotland, then this is the right thing to do’, said Nicola Sturgeon, the Deputy First Minister.

In response to concerns expressed regarding the Bill, Sturgeon promises that both freedom of speech and freedom of religion are not being compromised.
