Singer Bonnie Tyler in induced coma after emergency surgery

Bonnie Tyler, the singer behind the huge 80s hits Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero has been placed an induced coma after she had emergency intestinal surgery.

The singer, 74, fell ill at her home in Portugal and weas rushed to hospital. Local media have reported she is now in intensive care and in a coma.

A representative for the singer issued a statement on her condition.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.

“The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.

“We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.” they said.

They later released an update confirming that she’d been placed in an induced coma.

“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery,” he said.

“We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.

“We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

Tyler has been married to property developer Robert Sullivan since 1973 and the couple spend their time between Portugal and the United Kingdom. Tyler was born Gaynor Hopkins and hails from Wales. She chatted to OUTinPerth back in 2017.

Friends and fans have been wishing the singer a speedy recovering, including many celebrities. Tyler represented the UK at Eurovision in 2013 and in 2023 she was awarded an MBE for her services to music.
