Stephen Roche and Keith Westerby have been subject to further hate campaigns in the town of Penguin in northwest Tasmania. The town first drew national attention when a public notice targeted the two men’s sexuality in an effort to stop their property development. On April 2nd, ‘No Gays’ graffiti was found on road signs in the town, prompting local gay rights leaders to call for action from local government to tackle the problem of homophobia. For OUTinPerth’s interview with Mr. Roche, see ‘Penguin, Tasmania: Warning Influx of Sydney Gay Men’ on the previous page.
