Tea With Miss Katherine :: Giselle

Miss Katherine takes afternoon tea in her front parlour with the very lovely and very stylish Miss Glitter Giselle to discuss high fashion, orchids, accounting and hooker heels over cucumber sandwiches and a camp cup of peppermint tea.

Hello Glitter Giselle! Welcome to my parlour!

Oh, Miss Katherine, please call me Giselle. It was Glitter Giselle in 2006, but in 2008 it is Giselle without the Glitter. [wink]

And what a lovely name it is too. I just love your innate sense of style! Where do you draw your inspiration from and who are your favorite designers?

I am inspired by people around me, anyone who is fashionable really, but I recreate it to suit me and my own personality. My favorite fashion designers are Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Tom Ford when he was with Y.S.L. and Gucci, and John Galliano for Christian Dior.

How long have you been doing drag?

I am only three in drag years. It has had its ups and down, but I do love it. I suppose that is why I am still doing it, but I don’t really consider myself drag, as I don’t really do a lot of shows. I like to think of myself as a gender illusionist.

Who are your favorite drag artists?

I always love watching Sheila – Dita is amazzzing. And I also love Cherry.

Your photographs are just amazing, who does them for you?

Most of my recent professional photos have been created by the amazing and ever so talented Toby Black, but I am always forcing my friends to take new photos of me!

I have noticed you are working at Connections Night Club.

Yes, I am the new podium manager at Connies. My job includes styling, which is fun, I love what I do. I really love thinking of new themes and being creative about it. I also work for my family business… as an accountant [blush] – how unglamorous! I also do a little freelance styling.

Where do you live?

[Sigh] I live in a penthouse, on my own – just kidding! I live with my parents. I am saving money by staying at home, so I can hopefully one day start up my own business and become a freelance make up artist and stylist.

That job would be really fabulous for you! May I be ‘nosey’ and ask your favourite flowers?

I love orchids and lilies.

Favourite colors?

Royal purple, yellow and hot pink – I don’t wear hot pink but I ache for it.

Favourite shoes?

I like Mollini when I am in girly ‘tranny’ mode, but when I am camping it up on stage nothing can go past hooker heels – Frederick’s of Hollywood.

And finally, your favourite saying?

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
