United Kingdom: First Gay Wedding in Prison

Marc Goodwin and Mikhail Gallatinov tied the knot at a prison in East Yorkshire last week.

The couple recited their vows in short 15 minute ceremony before exchanging rings that they’d bought in a mail order catalogue.

Goodwin is serving a life sentence.  He was convicted of kicking and punching a man to death on Blackpool’s seafront in 2007. The attack was acknowledged as a gay hate crime.

His new husband, Mikhail Gallatinov is a convicted paedophile, who is currently serving 20 years for the 1997 murder of a 28 year old man who he met through a telephone chat line.

The families of the men’s victims have expressed their outrage that the prison wedding was permitted.

Authorities have confirmed that the pair will not be sharing a cell.
