The WA AIDS Council has an interesting job opportunity, they’re looking for a new HIV Positive Peer Education Officer.

The HIV Positive Peer Education Officer is responsible for providing a range of information, education and peer support strategies for people living with HIV, in order that their health and wellbeing is enhanced.  Using an empowerment model aimed at building on a person’s knowledge base, resilience, independence and social inclusion through one-on-one support, facilitated groups/seminars/workshops/social networking, advocacy, referral services and support for families and affected others.

The role is also responsible for keeping up to date with information pertaining to HIV treatments, new and emerging research and social issues for PLHIV (eg, disclosure, travel, employment, migration, insurance).  An understanding of the evidence, and clear dissemination of information regarding Treatment as Prevention, Undetectable Viral Load, PrEP and PEP is also an essential element of the HIV Positive Peer Education Officers role.

This position works effectively with a broad range of people living with HIV, including but not limited to, Aboriginal people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people who are of diverse sexuality and gender.
