During the election campaign the Nationals claimed that Labor’s plans to decriminalise homosexuality would lead to a wave of homosexuals moving to Queensland.

Following their election win the Goss government decriminised homosexuality in 1990.

Goss served as Premier until 1996 when he stood down and was replaced by Peter Beatie.

The former Premier passed away this morning. He had been diagnosed with a brain tumour 17 years ago, despite several operations his tumour returned.  Goss is survived by his wife and two children.

In a joint statement Roisin Goss and her children Ryan and Caitlin said; “As a family we mourn the man we love; as Queenslanders we join with so many others in gratitude for everything Wayne did for our community and our state.”
