Women Without High Heels Turned Away From Screening of Lesbian Themed Film

yay-7151324A group of women have reportedly been turned away from a screening of the lesbian themed drama ‘Carol’ at the Cannes Film Film Festival because they were wearing flat shoes.

The Cannes Film Festival has confirmed that it expects women to wear high heels to it’s red carpet screenings.

The move has been widely criticised, with it being highlighted that even older women who might have mobility issues were being turned away from film screenings.

Former pop star Jamelia has weighed in on the subject. Appearing on the UK chat program ‘Loose Women’ the singer asked if the dress code stipulated high heels, before going on to say “If it’s a black tie event and a man turns up in a tracksuit, is that not the same thing?”

The film ‘Carol’ stars Australian actress Cate Blanchett which tells the story of a younger women falling in love with an older women. The film is based on the Patricia Highsmith novel ‘The Price of Salt’

Last week Blanchett was reported to have confirmed that she previosuly had sexual relationships with women while promoting the film, but the actress later clarified her comments, pointing out that only half of her answer had been published.

“From memory, the conversation ran: ‘Have you had relationships with women?’ And I said: ‘Yes, many times. Do you mean have I had sexual relationships with women? Then the answer is no.’ But that obviously didn’t make it.” Blanchett told a press conference earlier this week.

The actress added that in 2015 really nobody should care about other people’s sex lives.
