Gay rights pioneer Dick Leitsich dies at 83

One of the first LGBTI rights group was The Mattachine Society. Dick Leitsich was a member of the group and in 1966, three years before the Stonewall Riots he took part in a protest movement that paved the way for recognition of LGBTI people. Back in 1966 it was illegal for a bartender to serve you alcohol if he knew you were gay, Leitsich and his friends challenged that law. Read the obituary.

In 28 US States teachers can still be fired for sharing their sexuality

Texas is just one of 28 states in the USA where teachers can be fired for sharing their sexuality. Stacy Bailey is a teacher whop says that she was fired after a parent complained that their child had seen a picture of the teacher with her girlfriend, who has since become her wife.

Pride marches have been around for decades, but since 2009 Toronto has celebrated their transgender community with a special Transgender Pride March. On Friday hundreds of people took to the streets for the annual event. In the last 12 months Canada has passed a series of laws which give greater protections to transgender people.
