Mr Entsch said he wondered what Senator Bernardi would think if a member of his family turned out to be gay. ”Would he advocate sterilisation?”

In his new book ‘The Conservative Revolution’ Senator Bernardi argues that traditional nuclear families are the “gold standard” and superior to blended families and families with gay parents. The Senator also claims that children raised by single mothers are more likely to have criminal records and that women used abortion as a form of birth control.

Labor Leader Bill Shorten has also been critical of the Senator’s book saying as a step father he found Senator Bernardi’s statements about step families offensive.

Senator Bernardi has told NewsCorp that he is considering legal action against his parliamentary colleague.
