Penny Wong says the Prime Minister is a road block to marriage equality

Penny WongLabor senator Penny Wong has described the Prime Minister Tony Abbott as the ‘biggest roadblock’ in the way of marriage equality.

Speaking to reporters in Sydney Senator Wong said she wished the debate around allowing same sex couples to wed would not focus on polygamy.

“I wish the standard of this debate would perhaps be a little better than suggesting that marriage equality will somehow lead to polygamy,” Senator Wong said.

Senator Wong said some the arguments being put forward against marriage equality were illogical and offensive.

The South Australian senator’s comments come after Liberal senator Eric Abetz told SKY News that allowing same sex marriage would open a ‘Pandora’s Box’ of problems. Senator Abetz listed the push for polyamorous relationships as his top concern.
