Pride Cancels Community Meeting

Pride WA has canceled its community forum, which was to be held on Sunday November 25 at Lotteries West. The meeting was announced at the tail end of the Pride festival, prior to Pride’s announcement that it was $36,000 in debt.

Male Co-President Dean Cahill wrote in a letter to members of Pride announcing the meeting:

‘Pride WA has been running now for 18 years. What has become apparent over the last 3-4 years is that the needs, direction and focus of our community have changed. Some things however, have stayed the same.

‘People have become busier and dissatisfied, the economic climate more burdensome, volunteer committee members more scarce due to these circumstances. If Pride WA is to survive, we need to reconsider its purpose and create new strategies that reflect what the community wants and foster partnerships and relationships within and outside our community. It is clear that Pride WA is currently not fulfilling on that.’

While the community meeting has been cancelled, Pride members will still have a chance to have a say about the future of the organisation at a Special General Meeting on December 19 at 7pm at Lotteries House, 2 Delhi St, West Perth.
