Lesbian Invoice Adressed to 'Dykes'

DSC_0527Two lesbians on the Sunshine Coast have created a social media whirlwind after receiving an invoice with the surname ‘Dykes’, from a company named Network Pool and Spa Services.

Tarran Hearfield and Karen Mead were astounded to find the letter addressed to ‘K + T Dykes’, the mishap apparently occurred when an internal note found its way to office staff who typed up the invoice.

Speaking to the Sunshine Coast Daily, Hearfield discussed the confusion when they first received the wrongly addressed invoice:

“We thought at first it had to be a joke, but then we were highly offended.

“If we were a different colour or race or had a big nose, would they have written that down, too?”

Although glad to receive an apology from the company, the couple still expressed anger towards the discriminatory mishap.

“At the end of the day, we are people like everyone else and we are constantly living in a world of labels which is ridiculous.

“This man labeled us in a way which is morally incorrect and it reflected on the invoice”.

An image of the invoice has received high circulation on social media and blogs.
