215cee3de5c116dc7086ff851768d7e3[1]Poland’s first openly gay elected official has alleged he was assaulted whilst attending an LGBT equality parade in Warsaw over the weekend.

Robert Biedron from the Liberal Palikot’s Movement Party, has been vocal about his support for the queer community since his election in 2011.

He was not a figurehead for the march.

The incident occurred shortly after the march at a nearby café, where Beidron headed with a group of friends to celebrate festivities.

Speaking to Polsat News, Biedron claimed that the aggressive man entered the café and quickly began abusing his group.

“He began to choke one of my friends and punched him in the face. When he recognized me he spat in my face, raised his fists and kicked me in the stomach.

“This was an unpleasant incident, and it shows that there is perhaps no sense in burying one’s head in the sand”.

Despite the attack, Biedron acknowledged that this year’s march encountered far less violence than previous years.
