Love Letters: Sarah, Tash and the super villainous proposal

The opponents of marriage equality have claimed that the survey on marriage equality is about everything from education programs, to freedom of speech, to fighting political correctness.

We know that the call for equality is simply just recognising the love between two people, and their desire the formalise that commitment before their friends and families.

As we fight for the right to be able to get married to our loved ones, we’re sharing stories of LGBTI couples, and we want you to send us your story, like many couples have already done.

Meet Sarah and Tash!

Who are you?

My name is Sarah. I am 29.

My beautiful fiancée is Natasha (Tash), a 28 year old trans woman.

How did you meet?

We met through a mutual friend on Facebook.  We were just friends at first but we both knew quickly we wanted to be more!

How long have you been a couple?

We have been dating almost a year now.

What’s your favourite thing about each other?

Tash says her favourite thing about me is how well I take care of her, despite her multiple mental illnesses I never leave her side no matter what.

My favourite thing about her is how strong she has made me as a person.

What has been a big moment in your relationship?

It would have to be my proposal to her. We both love Suicide Squad so I told her to meet me outside the cinemas wearing her Harley Quinn t shirt.

I was dressed like the Joker and got down on one knee… the pub nearby erupted in cheers and claps!

Why do you want to see marriage equality in Australia?

Because it’s about time everyone in society was given the freedom to love who they want, where one day saying ‘Hi, I’m gay’ will be as mundane a statement as ‘Hi, I’m Sarah’ or ‘Hi, I’m an Aries’.

How do you foresee your wedding day?

Surrounded by close friends and family who love us, quite spiritual and not traditional at all.

No white dresses, we’ll be in black & purple, with a hand-fasting ritual and metal music at the reception!
