Opera in the Park returns to the City of Perth in 2019 with West Australian Opera’s production of the Verdi classic La traviata.
La traviata tells the story of Violetta, a courtesan with a tragic secret. When she encounters the charming Alfredo, who is besotted with her, Violetta sees the chance for a new life with him, far away.
However, Alfredo’s conventional father disapproves of the liaison, and makes a demand of Violetta. She is forced to make the ultimate choice: to be with the one she loves or to sacrifice her happiness in order to save Alfredo’s good family name.
Soprano Elena Perroni takes on the title role of Violetta in her second performance for WA Opera since her debut as Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme at last year’s Opera in the Park.
Joining Perroni will be beloved Perth tenor Paul O’Neill as Alfredo, James Clayton (Giorgio Germont), Ashlyn Tymms (Flora Bervoix), Rebecca Castellini (Annina), Jun Zhang (Gastone de Letorieres), Mark Alderson (Barone Douphol), Sam Roberts-Smith (Marchese d’Obigny) and Robert Hofman (Dottore Grenvil).
Brad Cohen will also be conducting the West Australian Symphony Orchestra as you soak up the classic tale under the stars.
For patrons looking for the ultimate Opera in the Park experience, WA Opera’s fundraising Sunset Supper will return. Supper tickets will help to support the work of the West Australian Opera, as well as an exclusive pre-show dinner and reserved seating and hospitality.
