Alan Cumming is ready to welcome a new cohort to ‘The Traitors USA’

Australia is currently wrapped up in its own version of The Traitors franchise, with Gretel Killeen putting a bevy of Australian celebrities and reality TV personalities through a series of challenging tasks. But the new season of the US version is coming soon, and we’ve just received our first look.

It’s easy to get addicted to The Traitors, and many viewers find that once they’ve watched one iteration, they’re soon diving into another country’s take on the format. The British version is hosted by the fabulous Claudia Winkleman and now includes both a civilian edition and a celebrity version. The Irish adaptation is hosted by actor Siobhán McSweeney, while the US version is fronted by the larger-than-life Alan Cumming.

Usually, the US edition features contestants from other reality television shows, but this time around the format has changed, with the cast made up entirely of everyday Americans. The trailer suggests, however, that they all have secrets to keep.

Dubbed The Traitors: New Blood, the preview clip opens with Cumming welcoming the new contestants to the castle in Scotland, describing them as “ordinary Americans”.

During the rapid-fire introductions, one contestant wearing a cowboy hat declares: “I think I’m a great liar. I mean, I did lie about being straight for the first 18 years of my life.”

The series also promises another parade of outrageous outfits from Cumming, along with a fresh round of terrible puns. Or perhaps that’s a parade of terrible outfits and a fresh round of outrageous puns.

With US$250,000 in prize money up for grabs, there will be plenty at stake when the new residents arrive at the castle on 17 September.

The series is expected to air in Australia on Network 10, although broadcast details should be confirmed closer to launch.
