THE SEEDS SEWN
Did you happen to catch the recent production of Antigone that appeared in Perth during PIAF? If so, then you’ll already know how fantastic a leading lady Kate Mulvany is. If not, then you have the opportunity to catch her in action when she appears in The Seed, a play which she also wrote. Here the Helpmann Award winner appears in a story about war and family and how sometimes you have to travel to the ends of the earth just to understand where you come from. Add the fact that the costumes are designed by Micka Agosta (think Priscilla, The Boy from Oz and Australia) and it’s all the more reason to witness this little gem. The Seed will appear at The Playhouse Theatre from June 2 to 6. www.bocsticketing.com.au
EAT ME!
Eat my monologue! That’s it… eat it good! Luxe is all set to present perhaps one of the more interesting cultural events you will attend this year: Eat My Monologue! It’s an interesting premise: fine food meets fine theatre, the two combining out the back of Luxe in the gorgeous Bamboo surrounds. Six playwrights, five directors, two musicians and 18 actors combine forces to deliver an evening that is sure to leave you salivating. And that’s just the acting! The food is off the scale and will have you coming back for more. Tickets are available now for the May 14 and 28 events. www.luxebar.com/bamboo
CUTE-I-CLE
What is it about nails, nail technicians and the secret bond between the two? It appears that Tanya Visosevic is the second artist this year exploring the situation, but in a perhaps far more playful way with her show Cuticle. Based at Fremantle Arts Centre, this show incorporates film and live performance to present four shorts which explore the relationships and that is divulged in the nail salon. One film is even shot on a hidden camera inside a handbag! Tanya V, as she is known locally, is perhaps one of the campest women around – a veritable gay man trapped in a woman’s body – and as a result her performance art is over the top and outrageous, truly, truly outrageous. www.fac.org.au
RIP KEITH + LOTTIE
It’s the end of an era! Keith + Lottie, that iconic institute that single-handedly brought cool back to Northbridge, has regrettably closed. With it, the K+L Gallery space and Whitegoods store have both also closed. The move has shocked many, but all is not lost – The Butcher Shop is still operating and in fact has taken over the entire front premise where K+L used to be. So all of your art supplies (and by art I mean street art) are still available, as are a range of accessories, mens clothes, magazines and artwork that had previously been on sale at K+L. Oh, and there’s also a window gallery space, so all in all… it’s not all lost! www.thebutchershop.com.au
MIGHTY MEGA MORPHING
Tom Cho is perhaps one of the most exciting literary voices to have emerged this year. Proof of the pudding is in the release of his new book, Look Who’s Morphing, which is out now through Giramondo Publishing. At first read, Cho’s stories are an odd psychedelic and incredibly lysergic adventure of dissociation and gradual transformation. But underneath the outrageous plots, the Suzi Quatro suits, the sexy Lilliputians in short skirts and being a 50 foot cock rock singer, Cho writes in an engaging, emotionally understated style that draws you in. And to celebrate the release of this new title, Planet Books will be launching Look Who’s Morphing on Tuesday June 9 @ 6.30pm… with Tom Cho there in person. Get your autograph on! www.tomcho.com
WHAT’S COOKING?
They’re back! It’s time once again to grab your map and trawl the streets of the ghetto as Windows on William (WOW) returns a little earlier than normal? Why the mid-year appearance? Well, this year WOW combines forces with WA Music Industry (WAMI) and Love is My Velocity (LIMV) to create one mega mash of art, culture, culinary treats and acronyms to celebrate both the release of the second LIMV cookbook (which covers 52 bands and 60 artists) and the WAMI festival. Artists involved in this year’s WOW event include Bec Baumann, Celene Bridge, Gian Manik and the ever so talented Ruby Mariani (OiP ?’s Ruby!). All up there will be 14 artists, 14 windows and 14 limited edition prints slash recipe cards to collect, all kicking off on Friday May 8 with a street party from 6pm. www.onwilliam.com.au/wow

Don’t worry, you have the opportunity to discover what happens there when FORM presents Illicit Making, a showcase of six jewellery designers whose work is woven together by an installation by renowned artist Emma Davies.
