Mathew ClarkeAcross the country tonight hundreds of company CEO’s will be feeling the cold as they sleep out to raise awareness and money for the homeless.

“I live in the city, and I have a business in the city, I see homeless people everyday because I walk to work. I see homeless people everywhere.

“Someone sent me an invitation to do it through my LinkedIN account and ‘why not give it a try?’ If I can raise some money and help people out that’s all good.”

Clarke says he hasn’t been doing anything to prepare for the cold night ahead, his focus as been on raising money.

Clarke is not alone, other well known faces to the LGBT community taking part in the fundraiser included Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, MLC Stephen Dawson has signed up and CEO of the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia, Craig Comrie in a long time participant in the event.

The campaign is now in it’s fourth year in Western Australia. When this years’ event was announced St Vincent de Paul CEO Mark Ferguson noted that it was the organisation’s biggest fundraiser.

“Over the last three years the Vinnies CEO Sleepout in WA has raised over $1.8million which has allowed the Society, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Perth to expand and continue to provide support services for homeless and street present young people (12-25 year olds)”,said Mr Ferguson.

“The event has also provided direct support to individuals and families in crisis and on the knife edge of homelessness ensuring they are able to remain in their homes and not become a statistic of homelessness and part of the vicious cycle that is homelessness.”
