Cynthia Nixon wants to be the Governor of New York

Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon has announced she’ll be challenging incumbent Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo for his position.

Nixon has announced her intention to run against Cuomo in the Democratic Primary saying “Something has to change.” in her campaign launch video.

“Something has to change,” Nixon said in video. “We want our government to work again, on health care, mass incarceration and fixing our broken subway. We are sick of politicians who care more about power than they do about us.”

The Sex and the City actress has never held office before but has been very involved in political issues , especially the area of school funding.

Nixon has publicly been supportive of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, who often spars politically with the incumbent governor.  Nixon’s wife Christine Marinoni recently stepped down from a role in the de Blasio administration.

If elected Nixon would be the first female Governor of New York, and the first person who has shared their that they are same sex attracted to become Governor of any U.S. state.
