Faces For Freedom for IDAHO

So IDAHo (International Day Against Homophobia) was on May 17 and Freedom Centre have made the most of it!
In support of IDAHo and to inform Freedom Centre’s submission to the National Human Rights Consultation, we are doing a project and encouraging YOU to contribute by submitting your own photos. The project is a way of making a statement against homophobia, and for human rights in Australia.
The Faces for Freedom Project has been a great success so far, with over 100 submissions from across the globe!

What is the project?
Faces for Freedom is a photography project by LGBTIQQ people and their supporters. It’s simply a series of photos of each of us holding a sign that makes a statement against homophobia and for human rights.
Part of what we will use the project for is the current National Human Rights Consultation being conducted by the Australian Federal Government and other human rights organizations, such as the Human Rights Commission. They are asking the Australian Public if we think we need a Human Rights Act, because currently WE DON’T HAVE ONE – despite 60% of Australians saying that they thought we DID!!

Freedom Centre will submit the statements made in the photos as a formal submission in support of Australia having a Human Rights Act to protect the rights of LGBTIQQ people and all other Australians.

How can YOU contribute?

It’s easy; make a CLEAR and VISIBLE sign that says a statement about why you think we need a Human Rights Act or why we need to take action against homophobia (and transphobia, biphobia & heterosexism too!!)
So when you’re thinking of your statement for your photo, please think about including;
-HOW homophobia goes against our human rights
-WHY we need a Human Rights Act in Australia
-WHAT a Human Rights Act would need to include to protect the human rights of people in the GLBTIQQ community
The submissions due date has been extended until the 10th of June and we are aiming for over 200 photos for the project!
So go to www.facesforfreedom.blogspot.com to see the submissions so far, for links about the National Human Rights Consultation, and for details of how to make your own FACES FOR FREEDOM submission!!
