Fairday This Weekend

Kicking off our Pride month this year is the annual City of Perth Fairday. It’s the time of the year we hoist the colours and put our Pride on display in the form of one big gay picnic.

Organised by the community-based association that aims to fight for gay and lesbian rights and issues, Pride WA, October marks the annual Perth Pride Festival.

The Pride Festival aims to bring together all facets of the gay community in WA together, giving the LGBTIQ community the opportunity to come together to celebrate sexual diversity and acceptance.

While Pride is more than a month of celebration, we must also remember that just 22 years ago, the World Health Organisation still had homosexuality listed as a disease.

Today, same-sex couples have the same financial and legal rights here in WA. Just a month ago, Tasmania government voted to support same-sex marriage. We’ve fought for our rights and we’re going to continue fighting for equality for as long as we need to.

Pride month runs from October 16 to November 12 with events happening all month like the Pride Queer Film Festival starting October 27 and many other events targeted at specific groups of the community.

The Pride Festival comes to a grand close with the much-anticipated Pride Parade on November 19 that will take place in the streets of Northbridge followed by the Official Pride Party at Connections Nightclub.

So bring your family and friends, pooches and children down to Russell Square to enjoy a day of good company, fun entertainment and spring sunshine.
