HIV infections in China increase

China has recorded an increase in the number of young people becoming infected with HIV. There has been a specific increase among young gay men.

Around 14,200 cases were diagnosed in the first 10 months of 2016 among 15 to 24 year olds, according to Wu Zunyou, the director of the National Centre for Aids/STD Control and Prevention. The amount of new cases has increased 10 percent from the previous year.

2,662 students were reported as becoming HIV positive in the first 10 months of this year. the large majority of new transmissions was among young gay men, 82 per cent of the cases were reported to be from men having gay sex.

The majority of young people contracting the virus were college students. health professionals are calling for the amount of sex education in the education curriculum to be increased. Currently students receive 10 hours of sex education during their education.
