Caller: What’s PEP?

Mensline: PEP or Post Exposure Prophylaxis is a course of anti-HIV drugs that is taken up to 72 hours after possible exposure to HIV infection. These drugs may help reduce the risk of acquiring HIV after sexual exposure (unsafe sex or broken condom), sharing of injecting equipment or a needlestick injury. PEP is not a cure for HIV/AIDS.

This is an abridged example of the types of conversations we have on the Mensline outreach phone service. OK, before you read any further, grab your phone and save this number – 9322 8401… It’s ok…I’ll wait for you…

What you have just entered into your phone is the Mensline number – a phone service for guys who are into, or have sex with, guys. It is a part of Project X and it provides answers to questions like the one above.
You can ask us anything – sex, where to hook up with guys, the community, STIs/HIV, or just have a chat about the feelings you have for your mate. We’ve pretty much heard it all and if we don’t have an answer we will be able to tell you where to get it from.

Mensline is a non-judgemental, peer-staffed information and referral service helping guys with anything from how to stop it from hurting when “taking one for the team” in the back passage to discussions around finding peace with feelings an behaviours of same sex attraction. This means when you call through the guy who picks up the phone is also into, or has sex with, guys so feel comfortable and we understand where you’re coming from.

We can provide you with information and referrals to a range of services including sexually sensitive doctors, sex on premise venues, places of worship, free confidential STI/HIV testing clinics, counsellor’s, community groups and organisations. Mensline is a free and totally confidential service provided by ProjectX.net.au
So, if you’re a guy and into or having sex with other guys and have a question give us a call. The line is open Friday – Sunday & Monday 10am to 10pm except public holidays…9322 8401.
